POETRY IN ACTION AmbassadorS
In 2026, Poetry in Action will celebrate 20 years of inspiring a lifelong love of learning and literature in school age students across the nation and beyond, and we will perform for our 1 millionth student. To mark these milestones, we are launching our inaugural Ambassadors Programme.
We’re looking for leaders and emerging leaders in poetry, education, and youth advocacy to work with us to amplify our work, and the voices of the young people we serve.

Qualities of an Ambassador
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors are passionate about inspiring and empowering young people to find and use their voice
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors believe in the power of literacy to shape futures
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors are dedicated to rich and engaging educational experiences which inspire a love of language and life-long learning
Experiences of an Ambassador
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors are actively engaged with youth, either as an educator, artist, or advocate
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors are emerging to mid-career leaders in their field, with demonstrable impact on the lives of youth with whom they work
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors are confident and experienced public presenters and / or speakers.
What Ambassadors do with Poetry in Action
Poetry in Action Ambassadors support young people finding and using their voice by
- Selecting the winner of the Poetry in Action Student Poetry Competition
- Exemplifying articulate passion, and purpose driven expression
- Poetry in Action Ambassadors represent Poetry in Action publicly, raising awareness of our work by:
- Sharing our work with their networks
- Presenting at and hosting Poetry in Action events
- Participating in media/publicity
- Creating and sharing content to expand Poetry in Action’s impact
What Poetry in Action does for our Ambassadors
- Poetry in Action amplifies the work of its Ambassadors
- Poetry in Action supports its Ambassadors with an honorarium of $1,500
- Poetry in Action covers the travel expenses associated with the Ambassador’s duties based out of Sydney
- Poetry in Action supports the professional development of its Ambassadors by providing publicity for their work, opportunities to observe rehearsals, readings and developments

Meet the Panel
Entrants will be chosen by a panel of industry leaders, including: internationally recognised poet and founder of Australian Poetry Slam, Miles Merrill; education leader and founder/CEO of Teach To Learn, Cindy Valdez; television actor and co-founder of Poetry in Action, Hazem Shammas; globally recognised education futurist and CEO/Founder of The Learning Future, Louka Parry; and Sydney University Professor Emerita Robyn Ewing AM, a member of the Order of Australia for her contributions to education and the arts.
